Nicole Kidman stars in the erotic thriller, Babygirl, hitting Australian cinemas this week. 

In this sexually frank thriller, a high-powered CEO puts her personal and professional life on the line when she begins a torrid affair with a much younger intern.

Written and directed by Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies), the Babygirl movie also stars Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw, Triangle of Sadness), Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Genius), and Sophie Wilde (Boy Swallows Universe).

Babygirl is making its Australian debut on Thursday, 30 January 2025 where it’s anticipated to have a prolific opening weekend.

It was originally released by A24 last Christmas where it was a moderate box-office success.

Is Babygirl streaming in Australia yet? 

Babygirl is just about to make its theatrical debut in Australia, meaning, it will probably take 2-3 months (or longer) before it becomes available for streaming online.

To have an idea of where to watch Babygirl online at home, it’s global distributor is A24 and it’s expected to premiere on Max in the US after its theatrical run. There’s no Max in Australia as of this writing with HBO content going straight to BINGE and Foxtel.

What is the plot of the Babygirl movie? 

In Babygirl, Nicole Kidman plays Romy Mathis, the successful leader of a tech company. Her chance encounter with Samuel (Dickinson), an intern at her company, upends her life in ways she didn’t see coming, finding herself irresistibly attracted to him. 

As the CEO puts her career and family on the line to begin an affair with the younger intern, she discovers the complexities of her romance with someone younger, especially when Samuel turns out to be the one with “power”, relegating Romy to be the submissive one. 

Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson memorably smolder with their captivating chemistry in this erotic thriller that explores sexual dynamics. The National Board of Review included Babygirl as one of their Top 10 films of 2024 with Kidman also winning the Best Actress award. 

The cast of Babygirl includes Esther McGregor, Vaughan Reilly, Gaite Jansen, Izabel Mar, Victor Slezak, Anoop Desai, Bartley Booz, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper, Leslie Silva, and Dolly Wells. Writer and director Halina Reijn also serves as a producer alongside David Hinojosa and Julia Oh.
