A new year means one thing to sports fans around Australia – sports legends getting ready to launch into another season of competition, pushing the limits of endurance to deliver some of the most thrilling moments you can see on TV.
Australians love their sport – that’s undeniable – and for anyone who’s truly passionate about sport, there’s only one destination to watch: Foxtel.
What’s in this Guide?
What is the Foxtel Sports package?
While the love of sports hd that runs deep through Australian TV has meant that there’s plenty to catch on traditional free-to-air TV most weekends of the year, for devoted fans of the many sporting codes that get us excited, it’s just not anywhere close enough.
Sport is all about being in the action live, of staying in the action without annoying breaks, and not missing a single game or match no matter what the day of the week or time of the day.
Pay TV giant Foxtel has long been acclaimed for its sports HD channels, and with good reason – if you love sports streaming of all persuasions, what you’ve been looking for is undoubtedly right here waiting for you, live and direct as it happens – all in high definition sports HD.
What channels are included in the Foxtel Sports bundle?
While it may have started off small all those years ago, Foxtel’s sports pack is headlined by Fox Sports and has exploded in recent years, and now boasts a huge range of channels with the ability to be there for your favourite sport, live and direct, and with the help of the ESPN and beIN Sports channels. Currently, there are over 50 sports you can watch live and on-demand.
Foxtel channels and pricing changes in 2024: Foxtel’s pricing has been revamped, with the Kids and the Favourites channels now added to the base Foxtel Plus bundle, increasing Foxtel Plus’ plan fee to $70 per month and therefore increasing the pricing of other packages, including Sports.
Another highlight to Foxtel’s new packages is Multiscreen being included in all Foxtel bundles (letting you stream Foxtel to other TVs in the house). Prior to this, the Multiscreen feature was only included in the Platinum Plus bundle.

What are the Foxtel streaming alternatives?
Before you decide that getting a full service installed is what you need, it’s worth checking out some alternatives that have opened up thanks to the fast uptake of streaming services in Australia.
Sports streaming with Kayo Sports
Also at the top of your list should be Kayo Sports. It has all the same channels that Foxtel has only you don’t need a iQ box to watch it as they’re all part of the Foxtel sports lineup.
Designed from the ground up as a streaming platform exclusively for sports, and engineered with ground-breaking special features that enhance the viewing experience, Kayo Sports just happens to be backed by the resources of Fox Sports. In other words, if it’s on Foxtel, it’s on Kayo Sports
You can stream events live, start watching on delay if you come in late, or stream past games on-demand. You can control the action with the multi-window Split View feature, pull up live stats, jump to the best bits with Key Moments, and take in entire games in less than 20 minutes with Kayo Minis. Every sport is streamed in full HD with a high frame rate for crystal-clear viewing, and you can watch on your phone, tablet, or big-screen TV just as easily.
And the price of all that is a mere $25 per month – no catches, no contracts, just wall-to-wall sports. Check out the free 7-day trial and see for yourself what the future of sports viewing might be.
Stream Foxtel’s sports channels on Foxtel Now
Foxtel Now offers the same Sports pack with 9 HD channels of the best live sports. There’s no set-up or installation required here, and there’s no lock-in contract, either, so you can change or cancel your subscription at any time.
Foxtel Now’s Sports pack is a premium channel pack, which you need to add on top of their base Essentials (Pop and Lifestyle) pack. Essentials pack costs $25/mth, while the Sports add-on pack costs $29/mth.
For a total of $54/mth, that gives you over 50 sports you can stream and discover the best drama and lifestyle shows with 20+ channels included in the base pack. Working with a wide range of devices, new customers can also try it with a 10-day free trial in Australia.

Watching Foxtel in 4K
Included at no extra cost with the Foxtel Sports package, Foxtel’s 4K channel is Australia’s first-ever broadcast 4K sports TV channel. Delivering perfect ultra HD picture quality straight from the satellite, it delivers your favourite sports and replays in crisp 4K. Among the sports set for 4K coverage in 2024 are the AFL, NRL, and the Formula One Grand Prix.
All you need to view the 4K channel is an iQ4 box or the latest iQ5 and a compatible TV. For watching movies in 4K, you need to get Foxtel’s Movies HD pack first. The Movies Ultra HD channel is available to iQ5 or iQ4 customers who have signed up for Movies and HD as part of their bundle.
Foxtel iQ5
More than three years after the launch of iQ4, Foxtel releases the all-new Foxtel iQ5 box. The main difference being that you can select its setup via satellite or your internet connection.
Fundamentally, you can now watch Foxtel with the Foxtel iQ5 through your internet connection – this is similar to what you can do with the Foxtel Now box.
However, the Foxtel Now box doesn’t allow recording of sports and your favourite shows, but the Foxtel iQ5 still can! Being a plug and play iQ box, you can watch sports, movies, and your favourite shows instantly with no traditional cable or satellite installation required.
The box records two internet channels and one free to air channel at the same time while allowing you to watch a fourth. So if you can’t or don’t want to install a Foxtel satellite dish on your roof (and who would!), then the iQ5 connects through your broadband connection while allowing you to watch Foxtel’s 4K channels.
