The many benefits of Foxtel packages
Foxtel already has so many benefits like their massive library of film and TV content and their well-priced bundle deals, but there’s more to a Foxtel subscription than just channels and price. Foxtel is an ever-growing company and is always looking for that new development. Over the years we’ve seen many changes but here are a few notable features with Foxtel today.
Particularly, their Foxtel TV iQ box, which provides live TV recording, on-demand HD movies, and ad-free sports streaming service. With Foxtel Now, they also provide an ad-free and on-demand streaming services, with speculations that they will gradually move deeper into the streaming service industry, which has now happened with the debut of the new iQ5 box.
The “New Foxtel Experience” merged Netflix with Foxtel
Back in 2019, Foxtel unveiled what they called “The New Foxtel Experience,” which gave Foxtel subscribers with an iQ3 and iQ4 box a completely redesigned user interface that includes access to Netflix with the two companies merging, as well as catch-up services. As part of this new experience, Foxtel now includes a full Netflix app for the first time on the iQ boxes.
With just a click of a button, you can switch from browsing through Foxtel acclaimed shows such as The Twelve and Wentworth to Netflix’s hit series such as Stranger Things and The Queen’s Gambit.
More streaming services have been added since then, especially with the release of the new iQ5. Below are streaming apps, as well as catch-up services that you can access via Foxtel’s iQ4 and iQ5 boxes.
The IQ5: the revolutionary Foxtel hardware
This latest Foxtel iQ box packs some serious power, making the experience smooth and effortless whether you’re watching and recording live TV, streaming the thousands of hours of on-demand content available to Foxtel subscribers, or enjoying the two Foxtel 4K channels – the first broadcast 4K TV channels in Australia.
It’s the iQ5 that’s key to the Foxtel experience, which seamlessly melds broadcast channels with high quality streaming – to the point where you can start watching a show live and finish it via on-demand streaming whenever you like. Recordings can be set for single episodes or entire series from the Foxtel website or one of the phone and tablet apps, making sure you never miss a show.
Most importantly, the new Foxtel iQ5 is unlike any of Foxtel’s previous iQ boxes. Offering a newer, sleeker look, it’s actually a plug and play device so there’s need for traditional cable or satellite installation.
Once your iQ5 is delivered, you can start streaming instantly by simply connecting it to your to your Ethernet or Wi-Fi network. This move by Foxtel is widely seen as the company becomes a dynamic streaming TV company.
Easy connection with Foxtel
For new subscribers, Foxtel will be installed as a satellite service – which, thanks to the satellite-only iQ4 and its 4K channels, is easily the best option (iQ5 became widely available in 2022) – and the new 4K channel shows just how capable satellite can be.
We’re guessing more 4K channels are on the way, too. But in the meantime, satellite is the only way you can watch live 4K television in Australia without any buffering or quality loss, guaranteed.
Installation costs are always a factor, especially when Foxtel has to put a satellite dish on your roof and wire it up inside your home, but even that’s less of an issue with some of the above plans – the installation cost is credited back to you so you don’t pay a cent, as long as you stay connected for the entire 12-month contract. Customers can always opt to go month-to-month but with the caveat of having to pay upfront costs.
Foxtel introduces Hubbl
In 2024, Foxtel finally unveiled Hubbl, the company’s latest “transformative TV technology” with the aim to simplify the user’s streaming experience.
Delivered in two forms: a puck-like device and a 4K Smart TV with a built-in soundbar called Hubbl Glass, every major global and local streaming app is integrated into its system so everything you need is on one platform.
Global streaming services Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Paramount+, Apple TV+ and video-sharing app YouTube, join local streamers BINGE, Kayo Sports, Stan, Flash, Optus Sport, Foxtel’s new app, LifeStyle.
Australia’s free streaming apps, ABC iView and ABC Kids, SBS On Demand, 9Now, 7plus, and 10 Play are also part of Hubbl’s streaming line-up.
Are Foxtel packages right for me?
For the past few decades, Foxtel has been a key part of Australia’s TV landscape, and in recent years it’s expanded massively as the range of entertainment on offer around the world – from TV drama to sport to reality TV to lifestyle shows – has gotten larger and larger. The Foxtel of today is more diverse and more technologically advanced than ever before, bringing in premium entertainment, sport, news and events from around the world on dozens of channels.
If it’s the complete seasons of Game of Thrones, and final season of Succession that you’re craving, you’ll only find it on Foxtel, thanks to the unrivalled library of the Showcase channel. If you’re wanting to see the very latest in lifestyle and reality shows, you’ll find them in the Foxtel TV guide as well – alongside live coverage of major events like the Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
There’s an unbelievable amount on Foxtel plus for the sports fans, whether it’s the NRL, the AFL, or something more, Fox Sports offers 9 channels delivering high definition coverage of almost every game from all around Australia and every corner of the globe.
Since iQ5 is initially being offered to customers on cable services, all these Foxtel channels are still delivered on the powerful iQ4, which not only makes the process of watching and recording your shows effortless, but also opens up access to the next level of live satellite broadcasting – 4K Ultra HD. iQ5 is now the crown jewel in the Foxtel Management Pty Ltd company residential service, and will eventually become standard for new subscribers over the coming months.
