Paul Kelly’s iconic song “How to Make Gravy” is getting a screen adaptation as BINGE’s debut film.
Australian talents are coming together in BINGE’s upcoming movie How to Make Gravy, based on Kelly’s Christmas song released in 1996. For the first time ever, Joe and his family are brought to life by Aria award-winning musician Meg Washington and director Nick Waterman.

Where to watch How to Make Gravy movie?
How to Make Gravy is streaming on BINGE, as well as on Foxtel, which commissioned the film. When watching on Foxtel and Foxtel Now, the movie specifically airs on Movies Premiere.

You can also watch How to Make Gravy on Foxtel, which is available as part of the Movies Premiere channel. You’ll need to get the Movies bundle to access Foxtel’s movies channels and the 50+ entertainment channels included on Foxtel Plus, giving you most of Foxtel’s TV catalogue.
Another option for streaming How to Make Gravy in Australia is Foxtel’s online streaming service, Foxtel Now, which still offers a free 10-day trial for new customers. What is the plot of How to Make Gravy?
Joe (Daniel Henshall) is an inmate who won’t get to spend Christmas with his family for the first time. The film also offers a glimpse of Joe’s life in prison and his efforts to avoid trouble in order to return home sooner. He then meets fellow inmate Noel (Hugo Weaving), a veteran lifer who helps him maintain his good behaviour, despite the persistent provocations of certified troublemaker Red (Kieran Darcy-Smith).
The adaptation also provides a glimpse into the lives of his family, who also struggle with the fact that Joe won’t be there with them. Playing Joe’s wife Rita is French actress Agathe Rousselle in her English-language debut, Brenton Thwaites as his brother Dan, Kate Mulvany as his sister Stella, and Damon Herriman as her husband Roger.
In addition, young star Jonah Wren Phillips plays Joe’s son Angus, while Rose Statham and Izzy Westlake star as Joe’s twin daughters Frank and Dolly. There will be cameo appearances from Australian musicians as well, including Adam Briggs, Dallas Woods, Brendan Maclean, The Grates’ Patience Hodgson, and Electric Fields’ Zaachariaha Fielding.
The film is produced by Meg Washington, Nick Waterman, Hamish Lewis and Schuyler Weiss, best known for co-producing the acclaimed 2022 film Elvis.
