What is the plot of the Wicked movie?
Born with green skin, Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo) is often misunderstood in the Land of Oz. Then she meets Galinda Upland (Ariana Grande), who becomes her enemy turned best friend.
FeaturedDespite their opposing personalities, the two develop a deep bond that’s soon tainted after meeting the Wizard of Oz. As their paths diverge, Elphaba becomes The Wicked Witch of the West while Galinda becomes Glinda the Good.
First announced in 2012, the development of Wicked’s film adaptation was a long, arduous one. After numerous delays, the main cast was confirmed with Erivo and Grande signing up in 2021.
Jon M. Chu, best known for directing Crazy Rich Asians, is the director. The screenplay was written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, based on the stage musical of the same name by Holzman and Stephen Schwartz.
