What is Presumed Innocent about?
Presumed Innocent is a legal thriller based on the 1987 book of the same name. It follows prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Gyllenhaal) as he takes on the case of his colleague Carolyn Polhemus (Renate Reinsve), as instructed by his district attorney boss Raymond Horgan (Bill Camp).
Unbeknownst to everyone, except for his wife, Barbara (Ruth Negga), Rusty and Carolyn had an affair before the latter’s tragic murder. Despite the conflict of interest, he accepts the case and takes charge of the investigation. When evidence eventually links him to the crime, Rusty, the case’s prosecutor, becomes the primary suspect.
This new adaptation hails from writer David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies, The Lincoln Lawyer) and producer J. J. Abrams (Star Wars sequel trilogy). Gyllenhaal also executive produced the series with Dustin Thomason, Ben Stephenson, Matthew Tinker, Sharr White, and Anne Sewitsky.
