Following a three-season stint on Nickelodeon, then a movie adaptation, Avatar: The Last Airbender is finally going live action, which seems to be the direction that smash-hit animated shows are taking with streamers competing for awesome content.
It follows the journey of the last Airbender and the master avatar, the only one who can bend all four elements, balance the physical and spiritual realms, and restore the world’s order.
He’s also a kid initially hesitant to do all those, but a certain power-hungry lord who wants to conquer everything is forcing him to finally accept his fate and his responsibilities.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming live-action fantasy series.

What is Avatar: The Last Airbender about?
In this epic fantasy created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, we’re introduced to Aang, the last surviving Air Nomad. He is also the Avatar, which is why the fate of the Four Nations – the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads – rests on his shoulders.
Aang is capable of not only manipulating air, but also bending the rest of the three elements – just one of the perks of being the Avatar. But as we’ve been hearing countless times, great power comes with great responsibility and that terrified him.
Fearing the magnitude of his duty, the 12-year-old airbender attempted to flee a century ago, only to be caught by storm, prompting him to freeze himself and his sky bison.
While in suspended animation, Fire Nation’s tyrannical leader Fire Lord Ozai got viciously greedy, annihilating all Air Nomads to get rid of the Avatar. Thinking there’s no longer an Avatar to stop him, he destroys everything in his abominable efforts to expand his nation’s empire.
Aang, accidentally awakened by siblings Katara and Sokka, must learn his true power as the master avatar. Without him, the war between the Four Nations will never stop and the balance between the physical and spiritual worlds will never be restored.
