What is the plot of The Burning Girls?
Based on C.J. Tudor’s famous book, The Burning Girls follows Rev. Jack Brooks and her teenage daughter Flo. After a devastating loss and a tragedy from her previous church, they find themselves beginning a new life in Chapel Croft, a village mired in secrecy and distrust. As they get further acquainted with the town and its people, they also become dangerously drawn into their conflicts and mysteries.
Chapel Croft itself has its fair share of dark and turbulent history, beginning 500 years ago when eight protestant martyrs were burned at the stake. Then thirty years ago, two teenage girls mysteriously disappeared without a trace. And two months prior to Jack and Flo’s arrival, the vicar of the local parish took his own life.
With conspiracies and suspicions enveloping the town, Jack realises that trying to uncover its secrets is a risky game, but attempting to do so might also help her exorcise the ghosts of her past as she suffers the brunt of her husband’s death.
Adapting the novel for television are screenwriters Hans Rosenfeldt and Camilla Ahlgren, while Charles Martin and Kieron Hawkes direct the series. Author C.J. Tudor is an executive producer alongside Rosenfeldt, Richard Tulk-Hart and Tony Wood.
