From the creator of The Conjuring, James Wan, and Jason Blum of Blumhouse (The Black Phone) comes a freaky sci-fi horror that revolves around an AI doll named M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android). Paired with a girl who recently lost her parents, her creator touts her as a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. While things worked out well in the beginning, it didn’t take long to see the grave repercussions of allowing a doll powered by artificial intelligence to take on the role of a parent.

M3GAN plot

Eight-year-old Cady (Violet McGraw) is sent to live with her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams) after losing both her parents to a car accident. Working as a robotics engineer at a high-tech toy company called Funki, Gemma suddenly becomes Cady’s caretaker. Uncertain about caring for a child and aggravated by pressures at work, Gemma decides to pair a life-like doll programmed to be the ultimate companion with her niece.

Named M3GAN, the AI doll exceeds expectations as she connects with Cady, treating the girl like someone she needs to protect, until M3GAN’s overprotectiveness and menacing independence lead to unimaginable consequences. Convinced something is terribly wrong with the AI doll she created, Gemma must now terminate the totally mean spirited toy before its release to the public.

M3GAN is directed by Gerard Johnstone from a story by Akela Cooper and James Wan. A sequel, titled M3GAN 2.0, has already been confirmed to premiere in 2025.
