Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund has just made his English-language film debut with Triangle of Sadness, and quite remarkably at that. A satirical black comedy with a stronger punch, the Palme d’Or winner takes a wicked swipe at the uber rich and ridiculously privileged by turning the social hierarchy on a luxury cruise ship upside down. Dropping on streaming this month, here’s how you can watch Triangle of Sadness online.

What’s in this Guide?

How to watch Triangle of Sadness in Australia

Triangle of Sadness centres around a celebrity model couple Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean in her final role) on a luxury cruise with wealthy guests. Taking the helm is an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). When a hurricane hits their ship, everyone’s world is turned upside down and the once daunting hierarchy on the ship sheds new skin, unveiling the tawdry relationship between power and beauty.

With the survivors stranded on a desert island, what initially appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically as they fight tooth and nail to survive. Praised for its vicious humour, Triangle of Sadness premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival where it won the festival’s highest prize. It went on to receive nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards.
