In Redefined: J.R. Smith, retired NBA star J.R. Smith restarts his life and career after being an NBA player for nearly two decades. Selected in the NBA draft at only 19, Smith has won two NBA championships, with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. Later that year, he retired from the NBA and began to pursue a liberal arts studies degree at North Carolina A&T State University, the country’s largest Historically Black University. Even more incredible, he takes up a new athletic passion – golf.

His story is the subject of Amazon’s new documentary series, Redefined: J.R. Smith.

The docuseries follows the former basketball star in his journey to redefine himself and his career. After facing setbacks and finding himself without a team to play for, he realises that he’s meant to do something else, prompting him to seek a new direction in life. He decides to pursue a college education and discovers his love of golf, becoming a member of the Men’s Golf Team at North Carolina A&T.

Executive-produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter under their company UNINTERRUPTED, the four-part docuseries is an inspiring reminder that it’s never too late to forge a new path.
