John Luther is a Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) working for the Serious Crime Unit. Tasked to solve a double homicide case, he meets psychopath Alice Morgan, who he’s unable to arrest due to lack of evidence. Morgan becomes infatuated with him, which begins their complex relationship. Recognising her brilliance when it comes to giving insight into the minds of other criminals he pursues, she becomes his unlikely partner.
Luther is created by Neil Cross, who also wrote the 2023 movie Luther: The Fallen Sun. For his portrayal of the tormented detective in the series, Idris Elba was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor at the Emmys four times. He went on to reprise his role in the film, which also starred Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo.
