The Consultant TV series preview
The arrival of a mysterious specialist shakes up a mobile gaming studio based in downtown Los Angeles and not in a good way. CompWare, an app-based gaming company, is still reeling from the death of its CEO when Regus Patoff announces himself as the new consultant.
Tasked “to observe, to streamline, and to improve”, he gains a tremendous amount of power in a short period of time. Soon, he begins making shocking decisions (suddenly announcing a managerial suite) and outrageous requests (wanting an elephant loose in the city). As if that’s not enough, Patoff appears to take delight in invading employees’ lives, making him more of a menace in the workplace that nobody ever saw coming.
Two CompWare employees, Elaine and Craig, team up to find out more about him while also investigating their CEO’s mysterious death. As Elaine questions Regus’ motives more and more, Craig makes unexpected headway on a new game, a project that eventually will cost him his personal life.
When Elaine stumbles upon a key to the records room that Patoff uses, she discovers extensively detailed files on every employee in the office, proving that Patoff is up to something while keeping close tabs on all of them. When Craig confronts the shady consultant once and for all, Elaine fears the worst outcome.
The Consultant, a black comedy thriller, is based on Bentley Little’s novel of the same name and adapted for television by Tony Basgallop, who also serves as an executive producer.
