More than forty years after legendary actor and filmmaker Mel Brooks directed and starred in the parody film History of the World: Part I, an anthology series serving as its sequel is set to premiere on Disney Plus in March.

In the 1981 seminal Mel Brooks film, the funniest and wildest of stories were set during the Stone Age, the Roman Empire, the Spanish Inquisition, and the French Revolution. Brooks himself played various characters in these different periods, further establishing him as a comedy legend.
Over four decades later and he’s back in this much-awaited follow-up, only this time it’s a sequel series that will certainly roast more historical figures and events, including the American civil war, the Russian revolution, and the construction of the pyramids in Egypt. Then there’s Seth Rogen’s Noah bringing pugs on board his ark.
Like the original film, each episode will showcase hilarious sketches, taking audiences through different periods of human history. This only means we’ll be seeing historical and biblical figures satirised in the upcoming series, including Mary Magdalene (Zazie Beetz), Sigmund Freud (Taika Waititi), Marco Polo (Jake Johnson), Harriet Tubman (Wanda Sykes), Amelia Earhart (Hannah Einbinder), and many more.
Brooks’ roster of all-time classics with the likes of The Producers, Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein, and of course, History of the World Part I, have been a barrel of laughs since gracing the screen decades ago. The follow-up to the 1981 anthology film, History of the World: Part II, shouldn’t be any different.
Mel Brooks wrote the series alongside co-writer, co-creator, and co-executive producer David Stassen (Central Intelligence). Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, and Nick Kroll also serve as producers. Despite including “Part I” in the original film’s title, there wasn’t actually any plan to make a sequel, that is until now.

The eight-episode series will premiere on streaming TV with two episodes on 6th March 2023. After its international debut, two new episodes will stream daily so that it’s described as a four-night event with episodes airing Monday until Thursday.

The sequel series to the classic 1981 anthology film features an ensemble cast that includes Mel Brooks himself, Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, and Ike Barinholtz. Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Seth Rogen (Pam & Tommy), J.B.
