First announced in 2021, BBC’s new dark comedy series, Rain Dogs, finally drops on streaming TV in Australia. Penned by acclaimed author Cash Carraway, best known for her memoir Skint Estate, the eight-episode series follows a single mother struggling to get by while also hustling to make sure her daughter gets more than what she’s gotten out of life. Making things a little easier are friends who she can lean on no matter what, comprising the dysfunctional family that ultimately becomes the heart of the show.

In Rain Dogs, Costello Jones is a working class single mum who wants better things for her daughter, Iris. She may have no grand ambitions on her own but genuinely believes her precocious daughter deserves more. Iris, on the other hand, loves her mother more than anyone but her predilection for hustling is also undeniable.
And so before anything else, Rain Dogs is a wild and punky tale of a mother’s love for her daughter. Joining the mother and daughter duo in their navigation of life are friends Selby, Costello’s soulmate and frenemy and Gloria, Iris’ chaotic godmother.
Together, these four remarkable rain dogs share a deep but complicated love, the epitome of a makeshift swaggerous family fed on resistance and outrageous antics. Their deep-rooted and passionate friendships are also bolstered by something they all have in common – brilliance thwarted by poverty and prejudice.
A BBC drama, Rain Dogs is written and created by Cash Carraway who also serves as executive producer, alongside Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris. Jo McClellan also co-produces for BBC One and Henrietta Colvin for Sid Gentle Films Ltd. Ciara McIlvenny, meanwhile is producer for the series with Richard Laxton and Jennifer Perrott coming aboard as directors. Rain Dogs stars Daisy May Cooper (This Country) in the lead role.

The new TV series, told with a dark lick of humour and a chaotic stance, drops in Australia on 7th March 2023. On Foxtel, it’s set to debut on FOX Showcase at 9:30 pm. Remaining episodes will then stream weekly on Foxtel, Foxtel Now, and BINGE.
