Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the beloved classic, 1986’s Top Gun, is finally dropping on streaming TV in December, just in time for the holidays. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer return to reprise their roles as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, respectively. Joining the star-studded cast are Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Glen Powell, among others.
Exceeding expectations, the new movie is more acclaimed than its predecessor with its emotional weight and the nostalgia it’s capable of evoking, not to mention its spectacular aviation scenes. Also the highest-grossing movie of 2022 thus far, those who haven’t seen Top Gun Maverick can finally do so easily online.
What’s in this Guide?
Top Gun: Maverick preview
More than thirty years after the events of Top Gun, Maverick Mitchell is a courageous test pilot who’s training a group of Top Gun graduates for a specialised mission that no living pilot has ever witnessed.
His many insubordination issues have been preventing his advancement in rank, ensuring that he stays where he belongs. Facing an uncertain future, he struggles to battle his own deepest fears. In the end, it culminates in a mission that requires the ultimate sacrifice from all involved.
One of the pilots in the training mission group is Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. The character’s addition into the film brings more heart and grit to the story, allowing Maverick to confront the past that still haunts him and eventually make peace with it.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and based on the stories by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, this long overdue Top Gun sequel surpasses the first film with a more compelling narrative, a widely lauded direction, and flying scenes that are almost beyond comparison.
With a streaming premiere scheduled in December (and January on other platforms), Top Gun Maverick is your best holiday streaming pick this month.
