What is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 about?

The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before the astounding events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, covering Middle-earth’s Second Age, an era of relative peace – that is until the forging of the titular Rings orchestrated by Sauron.

The Rings will pave the way for the re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth, leading to the fall of the once breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor. As the Rings’ destructive power corrupts the rulers that wear them, kingdoms that rose to glory crumble and are left in ruins. The Second Age also marks the last alliance between Elves and Men.

In the first season, Sauron, pretending to be the human Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), has succeeded in getting Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) and the other Elves into forging the first three of those Rings. With his return, creating the next batch of Rings will certainly be on his top-to-do list.

In Season 2, Sauron will emerge as a Dark Lord that’s bound to threaten peace in every kingdom even without army or ally. His ultimate mission has been the same from the very beginning – control all of Middle-earth to his corrupt will. Stopping him at all costs is Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), who he managed to deceive in the first season. The Elven warrior is now more resolved than ever to defeat the rising Dark Lord.

With Season 1 setting the stage for bigger things in the second season, we can expect the same level of prestige and spectacle with The Lord of the Rings series not holding back on its grandeur. As Sauron works on building his army in Mordor and expanding his wicked reaches, Middle-earth’s good forces won’t be wasting their time, either, culminating in an epic showdown that we can’t wait to see in Season 2.

Developed by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Rings of Power features younger versions of characters who appeared in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.
