How to watch Father of the Bride 2022 in Australia

How to watch Father of the Bride in Australia

The beloved story of a father having a hard time letting go of his daughter during her forthcoming wedding gets a fresh update nearly thirty years after Steve Martin played the eponymous role in 1991. An all-time family comedy classic, Father of the Bride first graced the screens in 1950 starring Spencer Tracy.

In this new adaptation, we’ll get to see Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan filling the parental shoes. More than a remake with a Latin twist, Father of the Bride introduces interesting changes to reflect the modernity of times, such as the daughter doing the proposing herself – to which Garcia’s character hilariously clarifies ‘Does anyone do that?’ And the answer according to 2022’s Father of the Bride, ‘absolutely!’

Directed by Gaz Alazraki and written by Matt Lopez, Father of the Bride premieres this month in Australia and using this guide you can find out where and how to watch it.

Father of the Bride movie preview

Father of the Bride tells the story of a father who must deal with his daughter’s upcoming wedding. Putting his worry for his daughter’s future aside, he must also learn to navigate the multiple relationships within a big, sprawling Cuban-American clan, a clash of two Latin cultures.

With the wedding set, both families from two Latin cultures blending together to get Sophie (Adra Adjona) and Adan (Diego Boneta) wed is also one of the movie’s highlights.

Warner Bros. announced last September 2020 that a Latin adaptation of Father of the Bride will be produced and it will centre around Cuban-American culture. By March 2021, Andy Garcia was chosen to star as Billy, the father of the bride.

In the succeeding months, Adria Arjona, Gloria Estefan, and Isabela Merced were officially announced to star as well. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, Father of the Bride premieres in the US via HBO Max. It also launches in Australia on selected streaming services.

The previous Father of the Bride (1991) starred Diane Keaton, Steve Martin, Kieran Culkin, Kimberly Williams, Martin Short, and George Newbern. A sequel, Father of the Bride Part II, was released in 1995.
