The long-running UK crime drama, Silent Witness, is back for another wild season in 2024 with no signs of slowing down. It’s worth noting that the show just reached an impressive milestone with the 25th-anniversary special series airing in 2022.
And because staying on primetime television for 25 years while maintaining good ratings is too great of an accomplishment, fans were treated to an especially well-crafted and addictive twenty-fifth season.
Of course, there’s more compelling crime drama to unpack in the Silent Witness universe with the twenty-sixth season confirmed to premiere in January. Find out how to watch new episodes here.

Silent Witness Season 27 plot
Emilia Fox’s Dr Nikki Alexander is back for another season alongside her team to investigate more chilling cases. As the BBC teases, Nikki and Jack will have to deal with their “some of their most chilling cases yet”.
The new season will kick off with the team investigating a notorious serial killer who seems to have resumed his monstrous acts after twenty years after a body is found in an abandoned church. This is only the beginning as they are once again entangled in more crimes that need solving ASAP. But with the Lyell threatened by a dangerous force, Nikki and her team don’t have the luxury of time as they scramble to find answers.
As for the romantic angle of the series, fans would know that Nikki and Jack have finally made their romance official in Silent Witness Season 26, after much vagueness and complications in the previous seasons. But the unsettling nature of their professional lives is certainly going to disrupt the dynamic between the two.
We’ll also continue to see more of new characters who joined the Lyell team in the previous season. Aki Omoshaybi plays Gabriel Folukoya, an academic neurologist and pathologist with experience in innovative research about data analysis, and Alastair Michael as Velvy Schur, the Lyell’s new APT (Anatomical Pathology Technologist) trainee.
Rhiannon May also joined the cast as Cara Connolly, Jack’s niece. She was introduced back in Silent Witness Season 24, but the new season marks the first time that she’ll be part of the main cast. Her arrival was somewhat abrupt, announcing her decision to take a university course in Criminology.
A BBC Studios production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, Silent Witness Season 27 will be told over ten episodes.

Cast of Silent Witness
From Silent Witness Season 1 until the eighth series, the crime drama starred Amanda Burton as pathologist Sam Ryan. After her departure, Dr Leo Dalton (William Gaminara) and Dr Harry Cunningham (Tom Ward) played lead protagonists. Then came Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox), who was introduced in season 8.
She eventually took on the mantle of series lead, continuing to portray her character up until now. Before season 16, Tom Ward’s Dr Harry departed the show and succeeding him is forensics expert Jack Hodgson (David Caves) and his assistant Clarissa Mullery (Liz Carr).
It’s also been confirmed that Kevin McNally and John Thomson will play guest roles later in season 27. To keep track of its many characters throughout the seasons, we’ve listed the current cast of Silent Witness.
