Pam & Tommy TV series preview
In 1995, the whirlwind romance between Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee resulted in a beach wedding. They had divorced in 1998 with Lee getting arrested for assaulting Anderson. Now, their marriage and the events leading up to their sex tape getting stolen by a disgruntled contractor are the subjects of Disney’s upcoming eight-part miniseries.
Taken during their honeymoon, the content of the infamous VHS went from being a private property meant to be seen by only two people to a full-scale global public feast. While the tape was leaked during the early days of the web by the Internet Entertainment Group, it didn’t have any problem spreading from one spectator to the next.
The show also explores the marriage of Pam and Tommy, the crime that led to their sex tape being known to the world, and the nature and extent of their tumultuous relationship. A love story with a blend of crime and cautionary tale, Disney Plus’ new series combines elements depicting privacy, technology, celebrity and the chaos it all leads to. The biographical show also demonstrates how today’s era of reality TV had its roots traced back to Pam and Tommy’s marriage story and their sex tape incident, which became the first-ever viral video.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg developed the series with Robert D. Siegel joining the show as writer and Craig Gillespie as director. Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) portrays Tommy Lee, Lily James (Downton Abbey), and Rogen playing the contractor who stole the Pam and Tommy sex tape.
