Psychological thrillers always make for an engrossing watch, which is why TV series enthusiasts will love The Girl Before. Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by J.P. Delaney, it revolves around a woman who’s captivated by a remarkably minimalist house that she later moves into. But everything is not what it seems, not while the mysterious architect keeps a tight rein on the house and its occupants. Find out how to watch episodes of the series and see how the story unravels.
The Girl Before TV series preview
Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show, Misbehaviour) plays Jane Cavendish, a young woman with a traumatised past. When she gets the chance to move into an ultimate dream home in the form of One Folgate Street, she happily does so for a fresh start, despite all the exacting rules and demands imposed by the house’s enigmatic architect, Edward (David Oyelowo).
But as Jane begins to feel changed by the house in several unexpected and bizarre ways, she makes a shocking discovery involving its previous tenant, Emma (Jessica Plummer). Recognising the similarities between her and the girl before her, she starts to doubt and investigate Edward. As the two women’s timelines intertwine, Jane scrambles to figure out how happened to Emma and desperately attempt to avoid the same fate.
The new BBC drama is created, written and executive produced by JP Delaney. Screenwriter Marissa Lestrade also co-wrote episodes of the show while actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw serves as associate producer. Executive producers include Lisa Brühlmann, Eleanor Moran, Rory Aitken, Ben Pugh, and Ben Irving. Don’t miss the puzzling mystery in The Girl Before with all episodes now available in Australia.
