The Vampire Diaries Preview
In a nutshell, the series is a story of two vampire brothers. It takes place in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, which has a long history of supernatural events. It follows Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), an adolescent who has recently lost her parents in a car accident, as she falls in love with Stefan Salvatore, a 162-year-old vampire (Paul Wesley).
As Stefan’s enigmatic older brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) arrives with a plot to resurrect their previous love Katherine Pierce (also played by Dobrev), a vampire who looks precisely like Elena, their connection becomes increasingly complex.
Despite Damon’s initial resentment of his brother for forcing him to turn into a vampire, he eventually reconciles with Stefan and finds love with Elena, resulting in a love triangle between the three. As they battle numerous adversaries and threats to their community, including Katherine, both brothers try to defend Elena. As the series progresses, flashbacks explain the brothers’ background and the town’s ancient mythology.
While this may sound look like a story of two vampire brothers obsessed with nibbling the odd neck, it’s not that straightforward. Stefan is nice, kind-hearted and feeds himself on animal blood to avoid murdering anybody! Damon, however, is the greedy, deadly type who has an unquenchable thirst for blood of the human kind.
Elena is reintroduced to the supernatural world from which she was hidden as a child, and she surrounds herself with a group of human and supernatural allies who are ready to battle everything that lurks in the shadows.
