The Champions Cup is Europe’s equivalent of Super Rugby, featuring domestic teams from major rugby nations like England, Ireland, Wales and France. Exeter goes into the 2020/21 campaign as defending champions, with Toulouse and Leinster joining them as favourites to lift the trophy this year. European Champions Cup 2021 TV Preview
If you’re not familiar with Champions Cup rugby then you’re in for a real treat. The tournament takes the best sides from across Europe and throws them into two pools of 12. The 12 teams are then ranked into tiers, playing only two home and away games during the pool stages. This format has been introduced to reduce the number of matches played each season and increase player welfare.
The top eight teams in each pool will then qualify for the Last 16, when the tournament becomes a knock-out competition. The final for the 2020/21 Champions Cup will take place on May 23rd, 2021 at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France.
Some of the major names you can see plying their trade every weekend include Ireland’s Johnny Sexton (Leinster), England wing Jonny May (Gloucester) and young French superstar Antoine Dupont (Toulouse).
