Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s 1970 film, Let It Be, will become available to watch for the first time in over 50 years. The documentary stars The Beatles and features the band recording and rehearsing songs in January 1969 for what would become their final studio album.

Some footage filmed for the movie was used by Peter Jackson in his 2021 documentary The Beatles Get Back. The success of the docufilm has fans clamouring for the original movie to be made available, which contains more footage not included in the 2021 documentary.

Finally, the film has been restored by Jackson’s team at Park Road Post Production and will arrive on streaming in early May. Here’s how you can watch it in Australia:

What is the Let It Be movie about?

“Let It Be” was The Beatles twelfth and final studio album, containing worldwide hits like “Get Back”, “Across the Universe”, and “Let It Be”. It was released on May 8, 1970, nearly a month after The Beatles disbanded. The documentary film, which also premiered in May 1970 to coincide with the album’s release, features the band in action recording and rehearsing songs.

More than seeing the iconic foursome in their creative spaces writing songs, all while a film crew is given unprecedented access to record them, the film also provides a glimpse into the band’s dynamics, showcasing moments of both camaraderie and tension within the group.

In Jackson’s freshly restored version, fans will gain access to footage not included in the Get Back docuseries, bringing audiences into the studio with the band and onto Apple Corps’ London rooftop, the very place where the band made an impromptu concert in what would become their final public performance.

Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Let It Be stars John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, featuring Billy Preston as guest keyboardist. The Beatles members executive produced the film themselves with Neil Aspinall serving as the producer.
